Staining acidic phosphoproteins (phosvitin) in electrophoretic gels.
The principal phosphoglycoproteins of avian and amphibian egg yolk, known as phosvitins, have been examined extensively in developmental studies of estrogenic induction of protein synthesis (1) and, more recently, as substrates for protein kinases which phosphorylate the basic nuclear proteins (2,3). Phosvitin has few aromatic and basic amino acids (4) which can be detected by uv absorbance or ...
متن کاملProtein electrophoretic migration data from custom and commercial gradient gels
This paper presents data related to the article "A method for easily customizable gradient gel electrophoresis" (A.J. Miller, B. Roman, E.M. Norstrom, 2016) [1]. Data is presented on the rate of electrophoretic migration of proteins in both hand-poured and commercially acquired acrylamide gradient gels. For each gel, migration of 9 polypeptides of various masses was measured upon completion of ...
متن کاملElectrophoretic properties of the scrapie agent in agarose gels.
The molecular properties of the scrapie agent were investigated by subjecting partially purified preparations to electrophoresis on agarose gels. When electrophoresis was performed at room temperature in the presence of sodium dodecyl sulfate (NaDodSO4), most of the recoverable agent was found at the top of the gel, consistent with previous studies indicating aggregation of the agent upon expos...
متن کاملInherited electrophoretic variants detected in a Japanese population with two-dimensional gels of erythrocyte lysates.
Genetic variation has been studied in erythrocyte lysates from 100 Japanese children and their parents by means of two-dimensional polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. Fifty-five polypeptides selected without respect to variability were considered suitable for scoring. Genetic variation was encountered in 14 of these polypeptides. Family data show that the segregation of 13 variants is consisten...
متن کاملElectrophoretic strand separation of long DNAs with poly (U,G) in agarose gels.
We have found that binding of poly(U,G) to single-stranded DNA decreases its mobility in 0.3% agarose gels. Differential binding to the complementary strands of denatured duplex DNA provides a simple method for strand separation. The method is shown to work with bacteriophage lambda DNA, adenovirus DNA and mtDNA for Tetrahymena pyriformis. In all cases the strand that binds more poly(U,G) in Cs...
